From a Marine’s Workshop to Doublet’s Wood Emporium

Doublet’s Wood Emporium started in 2019 with a simple idea: create something meaningful for a fellow Marine.

​

While I was still serving in the United States Marine Corps, I began making custom wooden going-away gifts for Marines as they transferred, retired, or moved on to their next chapter. I wanted to create something more personal than an off-the-shelf plaque—something that represented their service, their unit, and the memories they had made along the way.

​

What started as a few projects in my workshop quickly grew through word of mouth. One project led to another, and before long I was building military ribbon displays, shadow boxes, challenge coin displays, unit logos, retirement gifts, and other personalized pieces. That was the beginning of Doublet’s Wood Emporium.

Built on Service, Craftsmanship, and Story

Today, I’m a Marine veteran, but the values I learned during my time in uniform still influence everything I build. Attention to detail matters. Quality matters. And when someone trusts me to create a piece commemorating 20 or 30 years of service, a promotion, retirement, PCS, or another important milestone, I understand that I’m not simply working with wood. I’m helping preserve part of someone’s story. That philosophy has also taken DWE beyond military gifts. Over the years, the shop has expanded into custom woodworking, personalized home décor, seasonal pieces, law-enforcement gifts, retirement displays, laser-engraved products, and plenty of one-of-a-kind projects that started with a customer saying, “I have an idea…” Those are often my favorite projects.

Doublet’s Wood Emporium is a small, veteran-owned woodworking business based in Richlands, North Carolina. This isn't a factory or a warehouse filled with mass-produced products. Everything is designed, cut, engraved, painted, assembled, and finished right here in my shop. Wood has character. Handmade projects have imperfections. And no two custom pieces are exactly alike.

I think that's part of what makes them special.

Whether I'm building a Marine's retirement shadow box, a wooden ribbon rack, a runner's medal display, a personalized family sign, or something I've never attempted before, the goal is the same:
